Sisters Ten BOM Progress

It has been a while since I've updated y'all on the progress of my Sisters Ten Block of the Month. I'm mostly caught up with everything, I just need to work on my blocks for August. I have them cut out but not pieced together yet.
All of my blocks up on the wall... I think I need more of that red print.

Here are all my completed blocks on my design wall. I am loving how they are looking but I definitely need to use more of that red print to balance everything out. The colors are a lot more vibrant in person. This quilt is totally going on the daybed that I am going to have in my craft room... when I actually have a craft room that is :)

Finally got my 2nd block for July done. #sisterstenBOM #genXquilters #quilting

This is the most recent block I have done, and it's from July... I should really work on those August blocks considering August is over in like 2 days!

I can't believe the summer has gone by so quickly. It seems like just yesterday Jeff was graduating and we were moving to Houston.

Disney Wordless Wednesday... on Thursday

This week's theme is Disney Inspired Letter "N", so my inspiration was William's New Look from when he got his first haircut at The Harmony Barbour Shop on Main Street.

25 Things Before 25

Happy Tuesday everyone! As of today, August 27th, there are exactly 7 months until my 25th birthday. I have to admit that I sat and stared at this post for a while before writing anything. I was at a loss as to what I wanted to accomplish before my 25th birthday. So I walked away, ate some ice cream, and then figured it out.

This isn't a grand list of lofty accomplishments like end world hunger, have another baby, or get a Masters Degree. No they're just small semi-practical goals that I want to try and accomplish before I turn the big 25! Some I am confident I can get crossed off, and others I know will be a challenge.
  1.  Finally lose those 10lbs that have been hanging on since having William.
  2. Complete 10 quilts (binding & all).
  3. Start making significant & consistent money from my Etsy shop.
  4. Exercise at least 4 days a week. (this goes hand in hand with #1)
  5. Go camping as a family.
  6. Go to the beach as a family.
  7. Balance our finances and stick to a budget.
  8. Be able to run 5 miles without stopping. (again goes with the exercise thing :)
  9. Grow my blog to at least 300 followers.
  10. Feel comfortable in a bathing suit again. (again exercise)
  11. Keep in touch with my girlfriends more.
  12. Save money and upgrade my camera to a DSLR.
  13. Visit a state I have never been to before.
  14. Bake soft pretzels from scratch.
  15. Get a family portrait taken.
  16. Start planning a wedding. This one hinges on Jeff's decision to make us "official" :)
  17. Have a pattern published in a Magazine or Moda Bake Shop.
  18. Read at least 25 books.
  19. Read to William more consistantly.
  20. Have an organized meal plan each week.
  21. Teach William how to do age appropriate chores
  22. Visit my brother more often.
  23. Open a savings account for William, and start saving for college.
  24. Finish William's 1st year scrapbook.
  25. Make The Weekender Bag & The Aeroplane Bag.
Well there is. The list of 25 things that I want to accomplish/make a habit of before I turn 25. Every month on the 27th I will check in and let y'all know how I am doing. Wish me luck :)

I'm Too Lazy & Cheap for the Gym

The title of this post really sums it up. I'm too lazy to go to the gym, and too cheap to pay for it. (Plus not paying for the gym means I have more money to buy fabric) Now that doesn't mean I am too lazy to exercise, quite the opposite. I try to exercise everyday during William's nap time. I have a pretty good sized library of workout DVDs and books, and it is consistently growing.

This past Friday I pulled out a DVD that I had grabbed at Target a couple of months ago. It is a beginners yoga DVD set that has 4 discs with different workouts. At first I thought it would just be a simple workout, nothing too challenging. It's says beginner on the box after all, and I've been doing yoga for years, I won't even break a sweat....

Boy was I wrong. This DVD kicked my butt, in a good way. So far I have done the 1st and 2nd DVDs and both have made me break out in a sweat.

The 1st Beginner Yoga DVD was really great. The workout was about 50 minutes, and it was really thorough on the basics of yoga. I got a great workout that left me sore the next day.

The 2nd Yoga Mix workout was only 20 minutes, and I was questionable about how in-depth this one would be. It ended up being so much more strenuous that the first DVD. I was literally dripping in sweat after the 20 minutes. The workout was a combination of dance and yoga, and it reminded me of workouts I did back in my dance team days.

I'm interested to see what the other 2 DVDs are like. I plan on doing one of them today during William's nap time. In the meantime, if you're looking for a great DVD to do at home and you're too cheap to pay for the gym like me, I totally recommend this one.

    Sunday Social

    It's that time again!
    Sunday Social

    1. What do you miss most about being a kid?
-- Not having a care in the world, and endless energy! I remember being able to play outside for hours, now I get exhausted watching William play lol.

    2. Did you have a nickname growing up? What was it?
-- My friends from Girl Scouts always called me hil-bil. It has stuck to this day with a couple of them :)

    3. What was your favorite thing to do at recess?
-- Playing Red Rover, and climbing on the giant wooden play-scape that our school had.

    4. What did you want to be when you grew up?
-- Honestly, I don't remember the answer from when I was really young :( But I always wanted to be Lizzie McGuire when I was in Middle School.

    5. Did you participate in any school activities?
-- I did everything in school. My favorites from Elementary school were Track and Field & being in The Nutcracker. In high school I was on the dance team, in choir, and in theatre. Plus I took all honors/AP classes... I was entirely too busy lol

    6. What is the funniest thing you did as a kid that your parents still remind you about?
--  I cried a lot as a kid.... like all the time. We have home videos and it would be me crying and my parents would say, "there's Hilary, she's crying again". When William throws a temper tantrum my parents say his Hilary is showing.

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

    William Says the Darnedest Things

Now that William is older his vocabulary has really expanded and it is pretty darn hysterical sometimes. Here are a couple of my favorite, and not so favorite, things that he says:

"Big turd right there" - Thankfully right there is always in the toilet.

"Ride in big Mum's car" - We said we were going for a ride in Mum's big car and he transposed big and mum, and now he'll only say big mum instead of Mum's big lol

"adventure Mum and Grandpa" - Whenever I tell him we are going somewhere, he jumps right to adventure Mum and Grandpa because of our upcoming vacation in October.

"shut the door" - When we put him down for bed, he says good night then follows quickly with this lol it's like he's a teenager already!

"more!" & "no" - these are 2 words I wish he would have never learned!

He yells "dinner done" whenever the microwave beeps :)

He knows to say "Xbox next episode" when we are watching Netflix, and it has actually worked a couple of times.

If music is on he shouts "dance party mama" it is very adorable.

He says "oh no tire!" every time his trucks crash because when Lightning McQueen crashes in Cars it's because of his tires (we've watched Cars entirely too many times lol)

One not so wonderful thing he has said is "holy s***" while playing with his cars. Thankfully this doesn't happen very often, and we always make sure he know that those are bad words. I really need to find better things to say while getting cut off in Houston traffic lol

These are just a couple of things that he says on a daily basis. It is so adorable listening to the things he says, and sometimes I am the only one that actually understands him.

I hope everyone has a great weekend :) I'm looking forward to the HMQG sew-in tomorrow. Hooray for uninterrupted sewing time from 10am - 4pm!

6 Things You Need to Know About Me

I've seen these posts all over the place, and I decided to jump on the bandwagon and answer some questions about myself :)

    1. Is this how you imagined your life would be?
Not at all... well not right now at least. I imagined being with Jeffrey and having a family together, but I never imagined it would have happened this soon. Nevertheless, I am so happy that this is where my life is at this moment. I am insanely blessed to have such an amazing little family. No matter how unconventional it is :)

    2. If money were no question, I’d purchase…
I would get a Bernina 830 sewing machine. It is probably one of my dream sewing machines, but it is pretty damn expensive! $12,999 MSRP to be exact.

    3. What do you love about yourself?
I love my optimism. I always try to find the silver lining in anything negative that comes our way, and I try really hard to not overreact (even though sometimes I do). I'm a firm believer in everything happens for a reason and it's better to be positive than negative.

    4. What is your guilty pleasure?
Beer. I love a good beer every now and then. Abita is definitely becoming my favorite Brewery. Their strawberry beer is to die for!

    5. What hobby would you love to pick up?
I would love to learn how to garden. Like garden for real, not just have a couple flower pots here and there. When we live in a house with a yard I really really really want to have a vegetable garden. I just need to learn how to not kill plants.

    6. What hobbies do you have that you don’t mention on your blog?
I really like playing video games. A couple years ago Jeffrey bought me an xbox for Christmas, and I love it. But don't play the video games that your boyfriends and husbands play, no I play the ones that are meant for small children. I own most of the Lego games, and I have beaten Lego Star Wars...twice. And I love the Kinect for the xbox. The Dance Central game is awesome, and actually a pretty good workout!

    Disney Almost Wordless Wednesday

    Focused on the Magic

So this weeks theme for Disney Wordless Wednesday is Disney Weenies. I didn't know what this one was referring to at first, but after some research I figured it out. Walt Disney and his Imagineers used to use the term “weenies” to refer to something, such as park icons, which would draw the attention of park guests. Walt once said:
“What you need is a weenie which says to people ‘Come this way.’ People won’t go down a long corridor unless there’s something promising at the end. You have to have something that beckons them to ‘walk this way.’” -Source

Obviously the most iconic of all is Cinderella's Castle. The castles presence draws you down Main Street. I have to admit that, to this day, I cry every time I enter the Magic Kingdom and see the castle. I just can't help it. It's like a reflex programed into my body lol. My mom does it too.... maybe it's genetic haha

If you have never been to Disney around the holidays then you totally need to go. It is gorgeous, and the castle looks magnificent lit up at night.

    Until next week :)

    Weekender Bag Inspiration

When I was in Austin a couple weekends ago for the Austin Shop Hop, I picked up a Weekender Bag pattern by Amy Butler. I have seen dozens of these gorgeous bags all over the internet, and I have decided to drink the kool-aid and make one too!

I've heard that it is very challenging to make, so I have definitely been doing my research on tips and tricks for this pattern. I found some great pointers at Oh, Fransson! so I am feeling a bit more confident about tackling this project.

As far as design goes, I know that I want to make one that is quilted, but I don't know what fabric I want to use yet. I want something darkish because I want to be able to use this bag a lot, and I don't want something that will stain easily.

    Weekender Bag
    Source
This is one bag I found while pursuing Flickr. I love the colors, and I actually have 2 of the fabrics that are used for this bag. Plus it's blue so when i have another baby, it could be his diaper bag. (I'm convinced our next child will be a boy too btw).

    Weekender Bag Complete!
    Source
I also really like this bag. The patchwork is adorable, and I actually like the color scheme even though it is pretty light. My mom would really like something like this, so I might make her one too :)

    Quilted Weekender Bag
    Source
I was drawn to this one because of the scrappiness of it and because it is blue. I also love the polka-dot print that was used for the handles and the piping. I have found that since having a baby boy, I'm not that big into girly color schemes any more.

    My Patchwork Weekender
    Source
And this bag contradicts everything I just said in the previous paragraph because to me it looks very girly, but I kinda like it in a strange adorable way. The stars on that front pocket are awesome and the color scheme is darling.

So that is where I am stuck right now. I have a ton of Texas A&M fabric and I have actually toyed with making one with that.... hmm I have some thinking to do. I'm going to go dig through my fabric and see what inspires me :)

You Might be a Texan If....

I found this list the other day on Facebook, and being a born and raised Texan myslef, I just had to share it! These are 25 ways you can tell if you are a Texan.

**I lost the original source where I got this so if you have seen it before let me know and I will give it credit where credit is due :) **

    1. You freak out if it rains
    tumblr_m0cp2tsOxe1qgcra2o1_500
Rain in Texas is a curse and a blessing. We love when it rains because it can rain pretty rarely most of the time, but most of the time it floods so people freak out. Driving in the rain can be a pain in the a**.

    2. When it’s summer, you want winter, and when it’s winter you want summer
    tumblr_lu4wjtLFpl1qcyvr4o1_500
This is pretty darn true. Summers are so hot we wish for the cold of winter, but when the temp drops below 50º people don parkas meant for Alaskan winters.

    3. “Yall”
    tumblr_mba4loPZZ01qzx48bo1_500
I can't go a single day without using the phrase y'all. It is just second nature :) Plus it’s also about a thousand times better than saying “you guys”.

    4. Nothing scares you more than a broken A/C
    tumblr_mp5vwwKl3J1qanojgo1_500
A broken A/C in a car or home is like a death sentence in this state. I had the misfortune to have a broken A/C for an entire summer once when I was in high school, and it was miserable! Plus the summer before I had William, our A/C in our duplex went out. Again that was miserable, especially being pregnant.

    5. You Won’t Stop At Any Gas Station That Isn’t Named Buc-ee’s
    tumblr_m2r7l2vBeI1qzs532o1_500
Now this one I kinda have a beef with this one because I don't see the big deal with Buc-ee's. Yeah they have great bathrooms, but I seriously don't need 100's of snack options for my road trip. I have a hard enough time choosing a snack when there are only a couple options.

Plus it is kinda exciting to stop at some dive of a gas-station on the side of the road. That's how adventures start :)

    6. You understand that shaded parking = good parking
    cards
If there is a shaded spot, take it. End of story.

    7. You’re more interested in fancy trucks than fancy cars
    ford
Eh trucks are cool, but I'm just eco-concious enough to know that I get way better gas mileage in a smaller SUV.

    8. You refer to all sodas as “Cokes”, but clarify specifically when you want a Dr Pepper
    soda
In Texas, all “sodas” are called cokes. When someone asks what kind of Coke you want, you can specify if needed. But never call a Dr Pepper a Coke. And Mr. Pibb is never an acceptable option.

    9. You skip the “g” at the end of most words
    tumblr_mgu9b3nbrg1r7yg03o1_500
G's are overrated. Also fixin' to is a common saying around here. My friend dated a guy from Boston for a little while, and he was always baffled by the expression and said it didn't make sense... It's a Texas thing.

    10. You measure distance in time, not miles
    tumblr_mm4i9sH24F1qd41ofo1_500
Texas is big, and the only way I have ever said how long it takes to get somewhere is in the amount of time it takes. It take 18 hours to get to Disney World, 8 hours to get to New Orleans, 2 hours to get from Austin to College Station, etc. etc. If you drive from Austin to California, you are halfway there when you reach El Paso.

    11. If you judge people based on if their high school was 5a, 4a, 3a, 2a, or 1a
    tumblr_mi36z74YDs1r98krzo1_500
High school size is a matter of pride in this state. If you’ve ever judged someone based on the size of theirs, you’re probably a Texan.

    12. If you’ve ever eaten Twang pickle salt out of the palm of your hand
    tumblr_lzz17ky09V1qayhljo1_500
So I never personally ate this stuff, my parents wouldn't let me. But I always saw my older cousins enjoying the stuff.

    13. If You’ve Ever Drank Pickle Juice Out Of The Jar
    tumblr_m3btsvtNZ51r7yg03o1_500
The only thing better than enjoying a Best Maid or Del Dixie pickle is drinking the juice out of the jar. I have to saw I am more than guilty of doing this on several occasions. The baseball park where my brother played ball as a kid even sold pickle pops in the concession stand.

    14. If you can’t believe that other states pay income tax
    The-Four-Rs-of-Why-We-Pay-Taxes-Daniel-Stoica-Accounting-Professional
Texas only has to pay federal income taxes. We’re spared the burden of having to also pay our state a big chunk of our income too. If you find it hard to fathom that anyone would have to give MORE of what they make, then you are definitely a Texan. FYI Florida doesn't pay state income taxes either. I learned that when I did my Disney College Program.

    15. If you think Texas shaped things taste better, because well, they do
    tumblr_m81bpgIP8K1ro2c3io1_500
    tumblr_lyj2c5qIUN1r7yg03o1_500

Texans know that anything Texas shaped is better than non-Texas shaped stuff.I've personally never had a Texas shaped steak, but I have chowed down on a number of Texas shaped chips in my life.

    16. If when the rest of the country complains about a heat wave, you tell them to quit complainin’
    tumblr_lphay1Dr5r1qlxe7io1_500
It's hot here. And it's humid. So going outside is like walking through a fog during the day in 100º temperatures.

    17. If you or someone you know has ever lost a cooler full of beers or been stuck in the whirlpool here
    tumblr_m055aoW4171r2oe1oo1_1280
I've never been to float the river. So I can't claim knowing if this is true personally, but I know several friends who have lost many things while floating the river.

    18. If when traveling outside of Texas, you meet a fellow Texan, and then are immediately friends
    tumblr_lvupaiyTgU1r7hx0ko1_500
Most Texans are generally happy and friendly people, well at least I am, so when you meet someone else form Texas outside of the state it is like old home week. You talk like friends even though you have never met before!

    19. You tell people who aren’t from Texas, “it’s a Texas thing, you wouldn’t understand” when they ask about the state
    tumblr_m1i6bfleTB1qac2yso1_500
Sometimes you just can't explain things about Texas. It's like one of my favorite quotes: "From the outside looking in, you can't understand it. And from the inside looking out, you can't explain it." This quote is actually from the Spirit of Aggieland wiki page. Texas A&M is by far the greatest university in the State of Texas :) but I'm a tad biased.

    20. You’ve got Texas in your soul
    tumblr_mc44mvGys81rsdiymo1_500
I love to travel and experience new places, but at the end of the day I always want to be home in Texas.

    Sunday Social

This Sunday I am doing something different and I am linking up with Neely at A Complete Waste of Makeup for the Sunday Social.
    Sunday Social

    This weeks questions are:

    1. What is something you’ve always wanted to do but are afraid of?
-- I've always wanted to try sewing a drunkards path block, but I have been scared because sewing curves can be difficult.

    2. Where do you see yourself in five years?
-- Jeffrey and I will finally be married, I will have my real estate license and be selling houses like a boss, and hopefully we will have another little baby or 2.

    3. What are you looking forward to before the end of 2013?
-- Definitely our trip to Disney World in October, and International Quilt Market & Festival at the beginning of November.

    4. What are your hopes for your blog?
-- Really I just hope that people read it :) I know I don't have the most exciting posts sometimes, but I hope people find inspiration or at least have a good laugh.

    5. Do you always see yourself living in your current town/city?
-- Not at all. Personally I am itching to leave Houston because it is just too busy for my taste. I got spoiled to the laid back College Station life for the past 6 years and now I'm struggling to keep up with the pace of Houston. But even if I loved Houston I know we will move. Jeffrey moved often as a kid and I love to travel, so I don't see us staying put for very long.

     6. What is your morning routine?
-- Since I stay home with William, our morning routine can be pretty varied. But this is basically how it goes:

6:00am - in a perfect world I would wake up and work out before William gets up (this doesn't happen often)
7:30-8:30am - William wakes me up.
9:00am - We have breakfast and watch some morning cartoons.
10:15am - I try and get some work done on the computer while William plays or colors.
    12:00pm - Lunch time

Until next Sunday :) I hope everyone has a great week! I have so many crafty projects to share this week.
