A Lovely Year of Finishes - February Finish

I am so pleased to say that I finished my February goal for ALYoF! My first finish was a pillow cover that started out as my block from the January HMQG meeting. It was my first attempt at improv piecing, and I have come to realized that it is not my cup of tea.

I am a planner.... Everything always has to have a plan, a clear route, and a purpose. You can ask Jeff how stressful it is planning a vacation with me :) Improv piecing drove me insane because I felt like I didn't have a purpose and in the end I hated the block I made. But I knew my sister would love it (it's her favorite colors) so like they say "one person's trash, is another person's treasure".

The pillow cover ended up being 23"x23" and I quilted it in an all over loopy design with purple thread.

I put in a hidden zipper for the closure because I always have issues with envelope backed pillows. This way I know it wont pop open and not look cute.

The finish that I am really excited about is my Lucky Stars QAL quilt! I started this baby last summer, and I finally finished quilting it last week!
It sat around as a finished top for a few weeks because I couldn't figure out how I wanted to quilt it. Then I finally decided to do straight line quilting and I am so glad I did!

I just love the texture it created, even though to took FOR-EV-ER to quilt!

I'm not going to say too much about this quilt here because I am writing a seperate post just for it with all the juicy details about the pattern, fabrics, etc!

I am so stoked that so far during ALYoF, I have met every goal I have set for myself! 2 months down, 10 to go! Plus I am starting to make a dent in my hefty WIP list.

Now I need to decided what I want to do for my March goal :)

Austin Shop Hop

This weekend I am heading back to Austin to do some fantastic fabric shopping during the 2nd Austin Shop Hop! Being a born and raised Austinite, I always love going home to visit, and I love it even more when there is fabric & shopping involved :)

One thing I love about the Austin Shop Hop is that with your passport purchase includes an awesome reusable shopping bag! The bag for this round is this really cool canvas bag.

I cannot wait to go to all 8 of the fantastic shops that are participating in the Hop! The hop spans the entire weekend, Friday, Saturday, & Sunday, but my mom has the weekend off so we're planning on doing all our shopping Friday.

Hopefully we can avoid some big crowds by going on a day when most people will be at work. Plus we'll get first pick of all the awesomeness in the stores :)

Is anyone else local to the Austin area planning on doing the Shop Hop?

First I want to give a huge Thank You to everyone who entered the Fat Quarter Shop Giveaway! It was so fun seeing which fabric collections everyone is excited about :) And without further ado, the winner of the Color ME Happy Layer Cake is......

  Anita Kropf!

I sent you an email Anita, and your prize will be headed your way soon!

Onto the business of the day! I am getting so close to finishing up my sisters quilt, and I can see the light at the end of the straight line quilting tunnel! I never realized just how long it would take to quilt this thing with straight lines that are roughly 0.5" to 0.75" apart. But despite the amount of time it is taking, I am really enjoying the texture it is creating.

Just look at that texture! I apologize for the instagram pictures :( I can't find my camera anywhere! Hopefully I find it soon so I can take pictures of this puppy when it's done.

You can kinda see in the left hand side of this picture that I was 50% done with quilting it at this point in time. Also W was fascinated by all the pins in the quilt :) It looks like he was helping me baste... if only lol

I love that he is so excited by helping me sew. He loves to hit the button on my machine to auto cut the thread, and is amazed by the bobbin winding process :)

I am so looking forward to getting this item crossed off my massive WIP list! My amazing friend Kristan and I are holding each other accountable and not letting either of us start something new until we clear things off our WIP lists.

So here is where my Master List sits as of today:

Tops that Need Quilting:

  • Marcelle Medallion
  • Winterbound
  • Shining Stars BOM
  • Animal Print Disappearing 9 Patch
  • Color Workshop Mini   Done! just need to blog about it.
  • Blue Jean Picnic Blanket

Quilting in Progress:
  • Emily's Quilt (Lucky Stars BOM) - almost time for binding!

Garments in Progress:
  • Kat Colorblocked Dress
  • W's Pajamas
  • Mom's Skirts

So there it is! I've crossed off 2 things and am almost done with a 3rd. I have to say having this list out for the world to see is really helping me keep on track and not start more things than I finish. My quilty ADHD is slowly but surely being tamed :)

I hope y'all are having a great week! I'm off to finish more WIPs.

A Lovely Year of Finishes - February Goal

I am very excited that I accomplished my January goal for ALYoF, but I must keep moving forward! Especially after sharing my 20 item WIP list. So for my February goal I have decided that I am going to attempt finishing the quilting on my sister's quilt, and my pillow from the HMQG color workshop.

I'm super excited about getting these things done!!
