Sewing Away

It took me a little while to sit back down at my sewing machine since getting home from our vacation. We had a pregnancy scare at the beginning of last week. I say scare not because we don't want another baby, but because I have the Mirena IUD. If you get pregnant while you have it in then there are tons of complications including loss of pregnancy and fertility.

Needless to say, things were pretty emotional around here for a couple of days. Thankfully it was a false alarm, but I am pretty determined that I want to get this IUD taken out so I don't have a scare like this again.

Anyway back to the fun stuff. I have been sewing up some really cute things for a friend of ours who is having a baby girl in December. Sewing baby stuff has actually be really therapeutic for my emotions.

The first thing I made for her is this adorable little dress. I think this is quite possibly the tiniest thing I have ever sewn. I think baby Peyton is going to look so cute in it :)

I used Made By Rae's Little Geranium dress pattern, and I loved it. I only used her free newborn size pattern, but I think I might purchase the full pattern so that I can make bigger sizes for the other little girls that we know. (I don't think she offers the newborn size as a free download anymore because I can't find the link on her website).

I also just completed this adorable quilt top for her. I still need to quilt and bind it, but I couldn't wait to share how cute it is coming together. I used Bonnie & Camille's Scrumptious line, and this great tutorial from Moda Bake Shop to make it.

We are going to visit our friends this weekend and I plan on having this finished up by then so I can give it to the mommy-to-be. I also have a couple other surprises in the works for her.

  1. The dress and quilt are both beautiful! I'm glad everything worked out with the scare. I've debated getting an IUD myself but I've heard a lot of scary things and I know someone who did get pregnant and had the baby but the pregnancy was difficult and they had to keep a close eye on things. Good luck with the decision.

    1. I've felt much better recently. It's amazing what sitting down at my sewing machine can do for my sanity :)

I love it in Scrumptious too :) I might have to go buy some more yardage of it for my stash.
