2013 in Pictures

2013 has been a really great year. Yes it has had it's ups and downs, but I have learned so much about myself not only as quilter & sewer but also as a girlfriend & mother. We are blessed that Jeffery graduated from A&M in May and got a fantastic job here in Houston, when the job market has been so tough over the past few years, and we are blessed to have such a healthy and vibrant little boy.

Here are some of my favorite pictures from 2013 :)

I'm looking forward to 2014 being just as wonderful as 2013 if not better! I have so many exciting plans in store and I can't wait to get started. Happy New Year everyone!

Thank you everyone that has followed along with me for the past year! I truly appreciate all of you who leave sweet comments and take the time to read my posts that sometimes feel like I am rambling on (kinda like right now lol). See y'all next year :)

25 Before 25 Check-In

I totally spaced on the fact that I was supposed to post this 3 days ago! William has been sick with a double ear infections since Christmas, so I haven't gotten much sewing and computer time in lately.
  1. Finally lose those 10lbs that have been hanging on since having William.
    • haha yeah I am just gonna laugh at this one. I have gained back the few pounds I have lost, but with the new year only a couple days away, I'm gonna get back to eating healthier. If you use My Fitness Pal or RunKeeper, add me as a friend and we can cheer for each other!
  2. Complete 10 quilts (binding & all).
  3. Start making significant & consistent money from my Etsy shop.
    • I've had steady orders over the past few weeks still, but with stocking orders over with I need to come up with a new staple item for the shop. If you haven't checked out my shop then you totally should :)
  4. Exercise at least 4 days a week. (this goes hand in hand with #1)
    • haha see #1
  5. Go camping as a family.
  6. Go to the beach as a family.
  7. Balance our finances and stick to a budget.
    • Done & Done :)
  8. Be able to run 5 miles without stopping. (again goes with the exercise thing)
  9. Grow my blog to at least 300 followers.
    • I'm up to 297 followers! GFC & Bloglovin combined. So close!
  10. Feel comfortable in a bathing suit again. (again exercise)
  11. Keep in touch with my girlfriends more.
  12. Save money and upgrade my camera to a DSLR.
  13. Visit a state I have never been to before.
  14. Bake soft pretzels from scratch.
  15. Get a family portrait taken.
  16. Start planning a wedding. This one hinges on Jeff's decision to make us "official" :)
  17. Have a pattern published in a Magazine or Moda Bake Shop.
    • I'm doing something special for an awesome site :) I'll share more about it soon!
  18. Read at least 25 books.
    • 5 down, 20 to go! I've started counting quilting books and such to the tally. Check out my Good Reads.
  19. Read to William more consistently.
    • We have story time every night :)
  20. Have an organized meal plan each week.
  21. Teach William how to do age appropriate chores.
    • He loves helping with the laundry and dishes, and is getting so much better at picking up his toys when he's done playing with them.
  22. Visit my brother more often.
    • Now that he is a stay-at-home dad, we hang out all the time!
  23. Open a savings account for William, and start saving for college.
    • DONE!
  24. Finish William's 1st year scrapbook.
  25. Make The Weekender Bag & The Aeroplane Bag
Well that's it so far. My brother and I are going to train to run the Walt Disney World Marathon in 2015, so I am determined to get healthy and exercise more! Plus I have been doing a lot of practice on my free motion quilting, and hopefully sometime soon that stack of quilt tops I have can become finished quilts.

This is probably one of my last posts before the new year, so I hope everyone has a safe and happy New Years Eve celebration and I'll talk to you next year ;)

Schnitzel and Boo Mini Quilt Swap

The past month or so I have seen some amazing things that have been tagged with the #schnitzelandboominiquiltswap over on Instagram. Well when my friend Kristan from Doodle Do Designs was looking for swap angels, I knew I wanted to help out in any way possible.

Once I found out who my partner was, I did some stalking (the curious kind, not the creepy kind) and figured out what I wanted to make her. I actually had 2 ideas in mind, and I am so glad I went with this one.

Right after I finished it last night.
I used Elizabeth Hartman's Sparkle Punch Quilt tutorial to make this mini. It was super simple to follow and turned out so amazing. I really want to make myself a mini exactly like this one because I love it so much!

William being kinda helpful.
W is only 2 but I am slowly teaching him to hold quilts for me. Thankfully he thinks that it is lots of fun, and when I asked him to do it this morning he said "ok, sure" it was adorable.

Not at all helpful, but super adorable.
He has his moments though :) I am so glad I captured this adorable face. I love my little boy and he is growing up way too fast!

Almost perfect.
Finally laying it down proved to be my best bet for a blur free picture. I love the colors in this quilt. I used some of my hoarded stashed Lizzy House Constellations fabric, and her ever useful Pearl Bracelets for the blues and blacks. The yellows are fabrics I had in my stash.

I quilted the stars with a yellow variegated thread by Gutermann, and I just outlined the stars shape 1/4" from the seam inside the stars. Then I used a blue variegated thread by Gutermann to quilt straight lines from the points and valleys of all the stars. It was my first time quilting like this, and I love the result.

I added 2 little triangles to the corners for her to hang it, and of course it is not until I sit down to write this (and the package is already mailed) that I realize I forgot to label the quilt! I always forget to do that. I need a sign to hang on the wall behind my sewing machine that says "Don't Forget to Label That Quilt!"

Well that's all from me for now. I'm back to my sewing, also sorry for being a bit absent around here recently, things have been crazy busy with all the sewing I am trying to get done between now and Christmas.
